The Gambia national beach volleyball teams missed out on an Olympic ticket in the on-going continental cup in Morocco.

The male team, the African champions however came close, finishing in third place after beating Ghana 2-1 to win the bronze medal.

With only one spot available for the African confederation in this Continental Cup, The Gambia’s male team fought gallantly to reach the semifinals where the boys lost to host Morocco 2-1 after a 1-1 draw with the Moroccan winning in the golden match. The women team too managed to reach the quarter finals in the same championship losing to Nigeria for the right to play in the semis.

Gambia Volleyball officials regretted the country’s failure to secure the Olympic ticket but expressed satisfaction with the performance of both teams.” It was always going to be tough since there is only one place available for Africa in this qualifier in both male and female categories. The players have given their best,” one official commented on Facebook.
