For the first time in many years The Gambia has reached the semifinal of major international tournament.
Last night the Young Scorpions beat Mali 1-0 to secure qualification to the semi final of the West African Football Union, WAFU, currently on in Monrovia, Liberia.

The victory handed the Gambia the second semi final spot in the group led by Mali. Senegal and Guinea who were playing in the group’s other match simultaneously missed the ticket despite Senegal’s 4-2 spanking of Guinea. The Lions massive last minute effort proved purely academic after The Gambia’s win over Mali gave the Young Scorpions 5 points, with Senegal coming at 3 points while Guinea remained 1point in fourth place.
In the other group, host Liberia and Ivory Coast secured tickets to the semis. The Gambia will now take on Ivory Coast in the Semis on Tuesday.
