A Gambian soldier serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Darfur, Sudan died on Sunday, an official statement from the Armed forces said yesterday.
Lance Corporal Bakary Danso was among 208 Gambian soldiers deployed to the Sudanese war-torn Darfur region, with GAMCOY 21 under the leadership of Lt. Col. Abdoulie Manneh.
According to the new Army PRO Lt. Malick Sanyang, Lance Corporal Danso died of natural causes.
A solemn ceremony presided by the Joint Special Representative of UNAMID Jeremiah Kingsley Mamabolo was conducted at the mission Headquarters in El- Fasher in honor of the deceased.
”Meanwhile, administrative arrangements are being processed for the repatriation of the corpse back home for burial. The Gambia Armed Forces in her mandate to serving humanity under the United Nations Africa Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) kindly, asks for the prayer of the public during this bereaved period,” a statement from the Army stated.
