Gambia Action Party deputy leader Omar Beyai has endorsed President Adama Barrow, four days after the party announced it has formed an alliance with the Gambia Democratic Congress.

In his endorsement statement Mr Beyai said: “Endorsing President Barrow is in the best interest of the Gambian people and the peace and tranquility of the country. I come to this conclusion with the thought that if accorded a second chance, he will transform this country,” he said. Beyai said President Barrow has not been found wanting in respecting the freedom of Gambians since he took over.

He said the Gambian leader also deserves “a second term in office for the unprecedented development he was able to accomplish in the past five years”.

“It is my belief that he deserves a second chance to prove himself after leading a fragmented coalition in the last five years,” he concluded.

GAP founding leader Musa Batchilly was suspended by the party after he declared his support for President Barrow.

The nomination papers of the party’s flag-bearer Alieu Sowe were rejected by the electoral commission.
