The Ministry of Tourism and Culture has said its proposed decision to ban all upcoming local festivals and shows has been rescinded.

Tourism Minister Hamat Bah confirmed to The Standard last evening that he has rescinded his earlier instruction after careful consideration of public concerns.

The ministry said its proposed plan to halt all festivals and concerts across the country was to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has taken a new twist fanning calls for the imposition of tighter restrictions.

“After a thorough review, we realised that the idea was not in the best interest of the people and that was why I decided to rescind it as quickly as possible,” Minister Bah said.
