Another political party, All People’s Party, APP, has been registered with veteran educationist Alhagie Gumbo Ali Touray as leader.
Mr Touary is a former director of International Affairs at the University of The Gambia.
The party’s symbol is a book, a rice plant and stethoscope, sea blue and white diagonal from top left to right. The party’s motto is Putting People First.
This is the fourth party to be registered in the past 12 months alone, following Citizens’ Alliance, Gambia For All and the National People’s Party.
However, the name APP has since 2017 been bandied around by one Omar Beyai, who has said he would form a party by the same name. When contacted yesterday, Mr Beyai who only met President Barrow Saturday, said he is not aware of the formation of any party called APP and is not part of them.
He admitted he has not registered any party of that name.
It appears someone has beaten Mr Beyai to the name by being the first to register it. As far as the IEC’s record is concerned, no one but Gumbo Touray and his people registered a party called APP.
