On Wednesday Valletta eased past Gzira United 2-0 away in the first semi final of the FA Trophy. They will now play Sliema Wanderaers in the final who also breezed through after edging Qormi 1-0 at home in the second semi final encounter. The final is pegged for Saturday May 3rd 2014 and will be played at the Ta’ Qali national Stadium.

The 2013-14 Maltese FA Cup is the 77th session since its inception. The defending champions are Hibernians, having won their 10th Maltese Cup last season. In January they bid farewell to the competition when second level side – Pieta Hotspur FC, shockingly beat them 1-0 in the fourth round.

Valletta sitting 13 games unbeaten in all domestic competitions were to host pool leaders – Birkirkara FC in the championship round Sunday afternoon. A win for either side will claim top spot and boost a chance in their title charge, with six other games to spare. Divided opinions among pundits and bookmakers suggest that the run for the title this year will be tough and may go down to the wire.
