Lawyer Abdulai Sissohor, defence counsel for Yankuba Touray, has urged the court to summon the judicial secretary and the executive secretary of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) to produce documents relating to the death of Ousman Koro Ceesay.
Sissohor made this application yesterday upon the completion of cross-examination of Awa Minteh, first defence witness by the principal state counsel, AM Yusuf, during sittings presided over by Justice Ebrima Ba Jaiteh of the High Court in Banjul in the criminal trial involving the state against Yankuba Touray.
Lawyer Sissohor moved his application on behalf of Touray for the high court to issue subpoena to the judicial secretary to produce the file docket of the coroner from the Brikama Magistrates Court in relation to the death of the former finance minister.
Sissohor also asked the court to issue a subpoena to the executive secretary of the TRRC to produce the official transcripts of the oral testimony of Edward Singhatey in connection with the death of Ousman Koro Ceesay.
The application was supported by a 20-paragraph affidavit sworn to by one Muhammed Sissohor, legal clerk in Mr Sissohor’s chambers.
The application was made pursuant to sections 220 and 221 of the Evidence Act and Section 241 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Sissohor urged the court to grant the application in the interest of fair hearing.
The matter was adjourned to 6th July when AM Yusuf is expected to respond to Sissohor’s application.
