Though no reason was proffered for Ceesay’s sack which is with immediate effect, it may not be unconnected with his recent arrest and subsequent indictment by the police. Mr Ceesay is indicted on seventeen criminal counts bordering on economic crime, abuse of office, negligence of official duty, theft, among other related charges while serving as the coordinator at the National Enterprise Development Initiative.
The statement from the presidency and monitored on state television reads: “The Gambian leader President Jammeh, acting under the APRC constitution has expelled Pa Malick Ceesay, member for Lower Saloum constituency from the APRC with effect from Monday 11 May 2015. The general public, all APRC supporters particularly those in Lower Saloum are respectfully informed.”
