By Lamin Cham The United Nations in the Gambia has facilitated the setting up of a joint transition team JTT of former and current cabinet members to ensure a smooth transfer of power from the out-going government to the incoming one. According to the UN, the JTT will comprise the current and past vice presidents and cabinet ministers, the Speaker and deputy Speaker, the Majority and Minority leaders Chief Justice with UN and Ecowas Representatives. The team will be inaugurated today Wednesday at the Kairaba Beach Hotel at 10am to be opened by President Adama Barrow. ”Proper political transition contributes substantially to the early stabilization of the new government,” a statement from the UN says. The function will be attended by all permanent secretaries. Due to the political impasse that preceded the elections in the wake of former President Jammeh’s controversial rejection of his defeat, the Gambia could not have a transition process.]]>
