To beat Macky Sall in the 2019 presidential election, the opposition will have to rely on other candidates than Khalifa Sall and Karim Wade. This is the conviction of Moustapha Cissé Lô, the deputy speaker of the Senegalese National Assembly. In an article in Vox populi reprinted by Pressafrik, he said Khalifa Sall the detained mayor of Dakar and Karim Wade, son of former President Abdoulaye Wade, are disqualified for the 2019 presidential election.

According to Mustapha Cissé Lo, the opposition must look for other candidates than these two, because their applications would not be admissible. “Do not talk to me about these people. Khalifa Sall is in the hands of justice, he can not be a candidate. (…) Karim Wade cannot be a candidate, let alone his father. So tell me: Who is there to beat our candidate? I do not yet see him in this opposition which exists only through lies, slander, calumny and the press. Besides, many of them have not even get to campaign in the interior of the country, during the recently held legislative election.

“In some localities, this trio [Idrissa Seck, Malick Gackou and Khalifa Sall] came far behind Benno and Wattu Senegaal. With time, we’ll see,” he told Vox populi.Meanwhile, the Senegalese press has said President Macky Sall offered sheep and more than FCFA80 million to economically-challenged Senegaese for the Muslim feast of Eid-ul-Adha, commonly known as Tobaski.
