The Mayors of Kanifing Municipal Council and Mbao in Senegal have recently reaffirmed their commitment in building strong ties between the two councils.
The two Mayors met recently ahead of the youth summer camp to be hosted by Mbao later this month.
KMC is preparing to take 55 young Gambians below the age of twelve down to Senegale for a two-week intensive mentorship on various areas.

The theme of the summer camp is “using sport to promote peace”.
Last year the Mayor of Mbao, accompanied by a high powered delegation, visited KMC with 55 young Senegalese who had weeks of interactive discussion with their Gambian counterparts.
This, according to Mayor Yankuba Colley is geared towards catching the kids young with the intention of building a better relationship between the two countries in the future.

Speaking at the Ministry of Youth and sports, Mayor Colley said this will help the children to establish a better relationship and mutual understanding among themselves.
“This is why we deem it necessary to visit the ministry of youth and sport to extend our desire to travel with the kids to Dakar. We also want to extend our invitation to the minister to attend the opening ceremony in Dakar,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Mbao Abdoulaye Pouye said the partnership between his council and the KMC is meant to build a better and more prosperous relationship between the two countries.
He said though Gambia and Senegal have endured some difficult times over the years in term of their relationship but “the future is very bright.”
“All what we are teaching the children is how best they can come together and unite as one people,” he said.
