Penda Bah, a nursing mother of a seven-month-old baby from Pallol village, in Niani was on Monday killed by lightning as she returned from the weekly open market Lumoo in Wassu.
According to Ass Sowe, an eyewitness who spoke to The Standard, the incident happened between Gingoreh Mustapha and Pallol village and the victim was on a horsecart when she was stroke by lightning. Four others on the cart survived but were initially hospitalised.
The witness said Penda’s little child is now being taken care of by her blind grandmother. The villagers appealed to the government and charities to help the blind and traumatised old woman who is struggling to take care of the baby.
