The former managing director of Nawec, Ebrima Sanyang yesterday appeared before the Janneh Commission to expound on matters regarding the company during his tenure as the boss.
Mr Sanyang in his evidence recalled that he worked at Nawec for 23 years and has passed through various positions until his appointment as the managing director in 2011.

According to him at the time of his appointment as MD, they had Kotu power and IPP project in operation, noting that the total generation on operation was eight to nine generators and the contract with Global Trading Group was in progress.

Mr Sanyang said he inherited the IPP project at Brikama, adding that they had also negotiated for the extension of IPP before they entered an MoU with GTG.
He said GTG insisted on the full payment of liabilities before “they allowed us to take over the IPP but later they were instructed to take over the plant and they formalised everything with GTG before finally taking over the plant.”

Mr Sanyang further told the inquiry that at some point Nawec stopped the payment of capacity charge until any time they receive directives from the office of the president.
