Delivering his maiden speech as chairman of the new board at its inauguration ceremony, the Brikama-born Mr Kolley said The Gambia is blessed with good sports administrators but they could not live up to expectations because of continuous bickering among themselves and national sports associations.
‘It would seem that some of these administrators are in sports for personal gain instead of uniting and working together to improve and develop the structures and other technical aspects for their national associations,” he said.
He added that another type of administrator exist who begrudged the opportunity to work together and prefer to encourage misunderstanding with malicious intent just to remain in office and confuse issues.
On how to address these challenges, Mr Kolley said the NSC that he would head shall ensure that well-meaning people are in sports and all national associations must have structures across the nation for them to qualify as national associations. ”The NSC shall be the registrar and controller of all sports associations in this country and henceforth the council should supervise all elections for positions in all national associations,” he noted.
The new chairman concluded by pledging that he and his team would work closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in their assignment
