The executive director of the National Sports Council, NSC, has told The Standard that the restrictions on public gatherings which also cover sports activities are still in place.
Marcel Mendy said there has not been any new advice or directive lifting the ban and the sports fraternity must continue to adhere to the government guidelines on the prevention of the Covid-19 which in fact is rising in the country.”We are still waiting for government’s advice and so far the policy of social distancing and prevention of large crowds has not changed,” he added
Mr Mendy said people involved in organising Nawettaan football may be trying to prepare but they must at all times observe the preventive methods and wait for a directive.
Currently, social football clubs in towns are preparing for possible participation in the annual summer Nawettan championships in their various communities.
However, the Gambia Football Federation, GFF, has cancelled the Zonal Nawettan championship the Super Nawettan alongside the football league which was scrapped after 12 weeks because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
