The Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Gambia Secretariat officials and contractors were at the Banjul seaport yesterday to receive materials for the construction of the roads under their project.

Nfally Fadera, head of branding and communications at the Gambia OIC secretariat, said they went to witness the offloading of a shipment of basalt which he said is a huge milestone as far as the project implementation is concerned.

Ebrima Fofana, structural engineer of one of the contractors, said the shipment that arrived is 5000 tons of basalt, adding that at the moment, they have about 3500 tons of basalt available.

According to Fofana, they are expecting more basalts from Guinea and Sierra Leone in the coming weeks.
