By Omar Bah

The opposition GFF presidential candidate Malick Sillah yesterday unveiled his team of executive members at a press conference at the Hostel.
The Sillah Campaign announced a nine-member executive team with two former prominent Gambian players who also served as administrators and coaches. The team also includes former and current media practitioners and a lady.

In his unveiling speech Essa Jallow, a member of the executive and spokesman of the group, said after a sobering and thoughtful reflection on the sad state of Gambian football, his group has taken the bold decision to attempt to rescue Gambian football from the clutches of a “bunch of scavengers who for years betrayed the trust and confidence of the Gambian football fans by hijacking the game and its administration to suit their money scavenging aspirations and forming cabals and cronyists as well as reducing its stakeholders who put them there to beggars instead of serving them with honesty and diligence.”

Mr Jallow said in the coming weeks Gambians will get to know why and how the Kaba- led administration has not only woefully failed to advance Gambian football but also how the unprecedented resources put at their disposal by Caf and Fifa have been misused through various “crafty means which will be exposed very clearly with compelling evidence which will hopefully convince the Gambian people that the Kaba administration cannot be trusted with the future of Gambian football for another four years.

“But let me tell you why I think that the new alternative offered by Malick Sillah is the best way forward for Gambian football. First of all members of the Malick Sillah team are credible, clean and knowledgeable football stakeholders who are not even remotely linked or connected to the recent ugly history of Gambia football and therefore not motivated by vengeance or survival tactics to keep or scramble for the free privileges that come with serving as an executive member.”
He added that if there is any group of persons that can be trusted to give Gambian football a fresh start and a new lease of life, that is the Sillah executive.

“For any executive committee to succeed the key main positions in football admiration requires technically knowledgeable people as well as prudent managers of human and financial resources who are honest and diligent,”
Jallow said. Team leader Malick Sillah also gave a brief speech outlining his vision for football. Read the full text of his message tomorrow.
