The state chief prosecutor, MB Abubacarr yesterday surprisingly applied for all charges to be dropped against former Minister of Petroleum, Sira Wally Ndow-Njai and eight others and urged the court to set them free.
Abubacarr who inherited the case from his predecessor, SH Barkun made this application when the case resumed before Justice Agboola of the High Court in Banjul after months of stalemate in the trial.
The presiding judge consequently exercised his discretional power and in accordance with the Constitution quashed the charges against the officials who were tried on charges of economic crime, conspiracy to commit felony, negligence of official duty, disobedience to statutory duty and destroying evidence by the former regime. The officials however denied any wrong doing throughout the trial.
They are Sira Wally Ndow-Njai, Momodou OS Badgie, Fafa Anyang, Cherno Marena, Muntaga Momodou Sallah, Seedy Kanyi, Louie Moses Mendy and Noah Touray.
