The Supreme Court of The Gambia will today hear the legal battle involving the newly-elected leader of the People’s Progressive Party, Muhamadou ‘Papa’ Njie and three others.
The PPP congress which was contested between Papa Njie and former vice president, Bakary Bunja Dabo, degenerated into controversy. Mr Dabo was said to have even congratulated Mr Njie after the election.
However, a few days later Alhaji Yaya Ceesay, Dodou Taal and Papa Faal took the new PPP leadership to court alleging that Papa Njie was not a bonafide member of the party. This and other irregularities, they said, informed their rejection of the congress election result.
When the case was first heard in court a few weeks back, the legal representative of the plaintiffs informed the court that Mr Njie hijacked the party which ruled the country for a generation.
