Police in the United States have announced the arrest and detention of Yusupha Sanneh, a Gambian former senior security official under former president Yahya Jammeh who is wanted in connection with the murder of Daba Marenah, the slain former spy chief.
Sanneh, who was living in Newark, New Jersey, was arrested on December 4, information on the New Jersey police website stated.
It is not clear though if his arrest has any connection with his alleged crime in The Gambia.
A couple of months ago, Sanneh’s name surfaced among others accused of unlawfully conspiring amongst themselves to commit murder, sometime in 2006 within the Foni district.
The men are said to have allegedly taken part in the killings and other criminal activities against Gambians during Jammeh’s regime including the murder of Journalist Deyda Hydara of The Point Newspaper in December 2004.
