The Gambia Weightlifting and Body Building Association over the weekend re-elected Musa Koteh of Fitness Gym unopposed as president at an elective congress held at the Serekunda East Park.
Meanwhile, Lamin King Colley too of the Football Hero Gym was elected unopposed as the first vice president, The rest of the executive members are as follows:
Ebrima Sonko of Universe gym- 2nd VP Burama Camara of Timeless Gym SG Fatoumatta Sonko of Badjie Fitness Gym. treasurer,
Ebrama Fofana of Koteh’s Gym auditor and Ousman Camara of Mighty Gym as PRO.
Ancha Ceesay and Mam Pity Gillen were brought in as co-opted members.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected first vice president Lamin King Colley said the day marked another day in the annals of the association.
He said the new executive has a great challenge ahead in trying to revive the sport. “
Mr Colley said the new executive will endeavour to move Gambian weightlifting forward and challenged his colleagues to deliver for the betterment of the sport.
“In this tenure of four years, my administration will focus on training of technicians and athletes with a view to develop weightlifting,” he said.
He said during their tenure of office, athletes will continue to compete and represent the country in major international competitions.
Mr Colley also pledged to stage a competition in which the winner will go home with a car.
“Finally, I thank each and every member of the weightlifting, body lifting and power lifting association for the confidence in voting us into office. I also thank the National Sports Council and The Gambia National Olympic Committee for their continuous partnership and guidance,” he concluded.
