One Fatou Manneh of Brikama was accidentally killed by a stray bullet at the Lance Corporal Lamin Bojang Firing Range.
According to the Army Spokesman Major Lamin K Sanyang, the incident happened on Sunday morning during the army’s regular firing exercise at the range. He said it was later learned that the victim hand gone into the forest to pluck cashew fruits when she was hit by bullets. Major Sanyang described it as a tragic event about which everyone is sorry.
The Army PRO said as usual, every measure was taken including giving enough warning through radio announcements each time a training is about to be conducted.
“This is an unfortunate incident,” he stressed.’
Meanwhile The Standard has leant that the Army hierarchy and senior government officials have visited the family house to express support and solidarity with the grieving relatives and the community of Brikama.
The Corporal Lamin Bojang Firing range has been used for training by the Army for decades.
