Seven days after starting the general voter registration for the 2021 electoral cycle, the Independent Electoral Commission has revealed that 191, 509 people have been issued voter cards as of 4th June.
A media release from the Election House yesterday added that out of the registered voters, 109,675 are females while 81,834 are males.
Below is the provisional statistics in each administrative area:
Banjul: 6,659, females:3416, males: 3243
Kanifing: 45,453, females: 24, 813, males: 20,640
Brikama: 60,636, females: 34, 524, males: 26,112
Kerewan: 9,815, females: 5,404, males: 4, 411
MansaKonko: 22,193, females: 12,940, males: 9,253
Janjanbureh: 24,747, females: 14,582, males: 10, 165
Basse: 22, 006, females: 13,996, males: 8,010
Total: 191,509, females: 109, 675, males: 81,834
The Election House reiterated that the registration will run until July 11th and urged all qualified Gambians to get their cards at the registration centre of their place of residence or birth.
The general voter registration, which started on 29th May, is the first activity on the 2021 electoral calendar ahead of the December presidential election.
