Press release

Cuba will begin this month a broader study with its vaccine candidates Abdala and Soberana 02, which will prioritize complex territories and risk groups, and then after the approval of emergency use, will increase the scope of the immunization, so that in August 70% of the population of the Caribbean Island can be vaccinated against Covid-19.

This was reported by the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, in the television program Mesa Redonda, when he reported the elements provided by the clinical trials carried out and in rigorous consultation with experts.

“We are going to a second stage in the intervention of health workers and risk groups,” said the owner, who assured that, between May and June, the entire force of the health sector will be vaccinated.

Portal Miranda explained that the census of each of the populations that would be included is carried out.

In the case of risk groups, that of the elderly throughout the country, they will intervene from the second half of June to the month of July, he explained.

We consider that by June we already have the emergency authorization. For that month we estimate that 22.6% of the Cuban population will be immunized, 33.5% in July, and 70% by August, he concluded.
