In a dramatic twist of events, Swandi Camara and Babucarr Jarjue, the alleged kidnappers of Mahawa Cham and Sulayman Ndow, who were on Tuesday released after the case was withdrawn by the state, have been rearrested.
The duo was being tried on charges of kidnapping for the purpose of murder, conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretense. They are alleged to have kidnapped Mahawa Cham, a former Kiang East APRC lawmaker from Senegal and brought him to The Gambia where he and one Sulayman Ndow are believed to have been murdered.
The duo however denied any responsibility since the day they were arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Banjul.
However, reliable sources told The Standard yesterday that the duo has been rearrested. It was not immediately clear whether any new charges have been brought against them.
