Spanish based foundation Amigos De Gambia, recently gave medical items worth over 20, 000 euros to the Serekunda General and Edward Francis Small Teaching hospitals.
The donated items included delivery beds, theatre operation tables, refraction machine, bed screms, bandages, cotton among others.
Receiving the items at the Serekunda Hospital ground, health Minister Soffie Lowe Ceesay expressed appreciation on behalf of the Government of the government to the donors.
She recalled this is not the first time Amigos De Gambia has been donating to the health sector in the Gambia.
Minister Ceesay further added that the organisation over the period has been donating medical drugs and materials to health facilities across the country, notably Sanyang health Centre and Sulayman Junkung General Hospital.
She said the organisation also brought medical volunteers to Sanyang Health Centre to work with their Gambian counterparts in order to provide the much needed care to the patients.
She also hailed them for going out of their way to support schools in the Gambia, including support to nursery schools with feeding programs.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Serekunda General Hospital Saidou Beyai also thanked Amigos De Gambia for supporting the hospital.
He promised that the materials will be put into good use.
Speaking on behalf of the donors Jose Luis also returned gratitude to the health ministry for accessing the gift and assured that Amigos will continue doing more of the same.
