The management and staff of the Asset Management Recovery Corporation have been redeployed to various ministries, departments and agencies.
Among those redeployed included the managing director Ansumana Sanneh, formerly of Pura, who is now re-deployed to the Directorate of Public Procurement under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
A letter from the PMO seen by The Standard stated that these redeployments came following a cabinet decision to dissolve the AMRC.
However, a seasoned senior civil servant said cabinet cannot dissolve the Corporation set up by an act of parliament. “Government may be contemplating to dissolve it but it has to go through the National Assembly first. So, as it stands, the executive can only redeploy the staff but cannot dissolve the body by itself,” our source said.
The Corporation was established in 1992 to manage the assets of the defunct Gambia Commercial and Development Bank (GCDB) and later charged with the management and disposal of forfeited properties arising from the various operations of the commissions of inquiry established by the 1994 military takeover.
