Barrow receives US$12M medical supplies

President Barrow yesterday hosted a formal ceremony at State House marking the official handing over of medical supplies valued US$12 million to the Government of The Gambia.

The landmark donation, coordinated by The Cornerstone Foundation in partnership with MAP International and the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH), represents the largest single health-related donation in the nation’s history. The medical supplies are intended to significantly enhance access to essential medicines and reinforce the country’s healthcare delivery capacity.

Presiding over the ceremony on behalf of the government Barrow welcomed the initiative as a transformative contribution to national development and public health resilience.

“This historic donation reflects the power of partnership, philanthropy, and shared responsibility in strengthening our healthcare system. It will directly improve service delivery for our people and support our frontline health professionals,” the president stated.

The Government of The Gambia expressed profound appreciation to The Cornerstone Foundation, MAP International, and all partners involved for their commitment to humanitarian solidarity and sustainable development. The Presidency also acknowledged the role of international cooperation and friendship in advancing critical social sectors.

The donated medical supplies will be distributed through national health institutions, with EFSTH serving as a primary beneficiary, to ensure improved availability of essential medicines and medical equipment across the country.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and representatives of the donor organisations, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening The Gambia’s healthcare infrastructure and improving the wellbeing of its citizens.
