The National Assembly Member for Fulladou West, Dawda Kawsu Jawara has said that his region (CRR) alone could feed the entire Gambian population if government invests effectively in rice cultivation in the area.
Speaking in an interview with The Standard Jawara said all what the government needs to do is to tackle the electricity and water problems and CRR alone can feed the nation.
Hon Jawara said CRR is the nucleus of farming activities in The Gambia with vast lands and a good climate for rice cultivation. “But unfortunately successive governments have not realised this for so long now. There is no better place to achieve food self sufficiency than CRR,” he said.
He added: “I have done a lot of research in neighboring countries like Senegal and I have realized that farmers in those countries are more equipped than our farmers. This I believe has to change if we want to put things right in the not too distance future,”
