The Gambia Football Federation has said it will appeal against a decision by Wafu to disqualify The Gambia from the ongoing Under-17 championship in Senegal.

Yesterday, Wafu officials wrote to the Gambian delegation in Thiés informing them that the Baby Scorpions have been disqualified for failing MRI tests. Wafu said the decision came from Caf which is using the tourney as qualification to the Caf Under-17 championship.

However, according to the GFF, the team went through two MRI tests; one in Banjul and another in Dakar supervised by Caf. And all those who failed were not used in the tourney. They also said the Wafu letter did not specify which players failed the test. “We will appeal against the decision,” a GFF statement said yesterday. The Gambia beat Mauritania 2-0 after losing to Senegal 4-2 and was waiting for the outcome of the last match in the group, Senegal against Mauritania, when news came that the country has been disqualified.
