Fifa has slammed a fine of over half a million dalasis on The Gambia for the misconduct of its fans during the first leg of a World Cup preliminary qualifying match at home to Angola on Saturday 6th September, Football House announced yesterday.
The fine, according to Fifa, came about after some unruly behavior of Gambian fans at the end of the game which breached its code of conduct for match security and order.
The Gambia Football Federation, GFF, said it is regrettable that fans continue to behave in breach of regulations which always attract heavy fines for the country and a bad image.
‘This is a very worrying situation for our football.
The situation cannot be left unattended and as such we urge our fans to stay away from engaging in unsporting behaviors as it is contrary to the norms of football,” the GFF statement said.
