The opposition Gambia Democratic Congress National Assembly member for Jimara Constituency has denied rumours linking him with a move to President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party, NPP.
In the last few days, The Standard received tips from sources that Alhagie Sowe is very much close to breaking camps with his GDC for a move to NPP as two of his colleagues in the party have done.
“GDC will very soon be left with only one National Assembly member. We are tearing the party into pieces step by step,” a close associate of the NPP told The Standard.
But in an exclusive Standard interview yesterday, Alhagie Sowe refuted the claims, arguing he is still with the GDC.
“I can confirm to you that there is no such thing. In fact, nobody from the NPP ever approached me just yet,” he said.
Since its formation, the NPP has been eating into the bases of the existing political parties, notably the GDC and the UDP, some of whose NAMs have already shifted to the Barrow camp.
