According to a recent release from a group calling itself, ‘Papa Gassama Fans’ Club’, the referee’s achievement is tremendous and therefore deserves to be celebrated. The release further reported that a ten-man executive committee has been formed on January 18 led by Soffie Jagne and comprises people from football fraternity to manage the affairs of the fans’ club.
”We deem it necessary to applaud Gassama for the tremendous records he made in football carrying The Gambia’s image with him,” the release from the fans’ club noted.
The Gambian won the Caf best referee award last month, the first Gambian to achieve such a feat. He then left for Equatorial Guinea where he has already officiated two matches as central referee and is expected to appear again in the concluding stages of the tourney.
