Haddy Faal

Student

She is an eye candy. As vivacious as she is intelligent. Haddy Faal, 21, is a final year student of Marketing & Management at the University of The Gambia. The Sukuta-born Kotu resident attended Bakau New Town Primary and Junior Secondary School and Hermann-Gmeiner Senior Secondary School before enrolling at the UTG in January 2014. She is expected to complete her studies this December. Hear her: “I was very shy growing up and I knew I had to work on my people and social interaction skills if I was to become a good entrepreneur which I aspire to be. So naturally, I opted to study Marketing and Management to hone these skills for personal and future corporate roles. I intend to proceed with postgraduate studies when I get my bachelors and get some experience working for the UN or some other international NGO.” New Gambia On her aspirations for New Gambia, Miss Faal, chirped: “All well-meaning Gambians wish the new government well. But I sincerely hope they invest more in the university. I think the fees are becoming unaffordable for many students from economically underprivileged backgrounds. The university also lacks basic things like adequate furniture and Internet connectivity. The government must do more to develop the human resources of this country. This country is full of smart people.” My favourite quote is from Nelson Mandela: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?” Editor’s note: This quote actually comes from the book ‘A Return To Love’ (1992) by Marianne Williamson.]]>
