Is the dislike towards ANM Ousainu Darboe a reflection of
our unquenchable prejudice and a pitiful sense of entitlement?
Dear editor,
Growing up in the village, I heard nothing about Ousainou Darboe other than him standing up in defense and protection of rights of his fellow citizens. He did so with passion, humility and a respect for the sanctity of the rule of law. In Darboe’s world, no one is above the law and everyone deserves equal treatment before the law.
Lawyer Darboe’s entrance into politics was not motivated by wealth, fame, name recognition or status. He had all of these and more. He rose to the occasion time & again when the situation in his country demanded it and when his countrymen and women needed a capable and compassionate leadership against a brute, self-serving tyrant! True to his character, he sacrificed all and stood by his people through one of the greatest political persecutions in our history and hasn’t looked back since.
His political philosophy is rooted in and guided by the supremacy of the Constitution of the land. Throughout his legal and political career, this upright citizen of our country never hurt a fly nor caused trouble for any one. He has not stolen a butut from anyone or involved in any fraudulent scheme against individuals or the country.
Hon Darboe is a fearless defender of truth, freedom, liberty and equality which he exhibits not with bravado or showmanship but with calmness, sophistication, tact and sobriety.
Those who dislike him for still standing tall, dignified and unbreakable may be doing so out of their sheer prejudices towards him and a sense of entitlement as to who gets to seek the highest office of The Gambia but not because of flaws in his judgment, character, competence, reputation, proven leadership or integrity.
Put respect to his name, please!!!
