Two lives were lost yesterday in a shocking episode of madness when a man, identified as Zilson Gomez, killed one Marie Mendy before killing himself in Busumbala.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Lamin Njie confirmed the incident to The Standard, revealing Marie lived in the same compound with her killer Gomez.
He further disclosed that both bodies have been evacuated for further examination and investigations have already started in the matter.
Unconfirmed sources quoted some villagers as saying that Gomez had allegedly raped Marie.
However, after knowing that news about the alleged rape was spreading around town, he decided to kill her and took his own life.
Reports said Marie was in her 12th grade at St Peter’s.
According to sources, Gomez is a Bissau-Guinean who came to The Gambia two years ago. He has since been living as a laborer to Marie’s father in the same compound.
