Press release – Cuban Embassy

A new group of Cuban health professionals arrived in The Gambia on Sunday to reinforce the Medical Brigade of the Caribbean island (CMB) that for more than two decades have contributed to healing and saving lives in this sister nation of West Africa.

The doctors and graduates were received at the Banjul International Airport by the Ambassador Rubén G Abelenda, and the head of the BMC, Dr Anaris Martha Odio Mosqueda.

They were also welcomed by the president of the Gambia-Cuba Friendship Association, Joseph Modou Peh  Grant, and on behalf of the young Gambian graduates from the Caribbean island, the recently graduated Dr Habibou Jallow.

The new professionals will provide their services in different regions of the country, as will another group that is scheduled to arrive in November to further increase the CMB presence in The Gambia.

The historical solidarity and brotherhood between Cuba and The Gambia is being intensified at a time when the key operative phrase to describe the diplomatic relationship is “to cooperate”, as recently stated by Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel.
