NPP files 40 nominations

The National Peoples Party yesterday filed 40 nominations for same number of seats across the country. The party said it will not contest the remaining 13 but will back coalition partners NRP, APRC and PPP at those constituencies.
One of the candidates nominated yesterday was Mustapha Lowe in Serekunda West.
Lowe is among several others to challenge incumbent Madi Ceesay of the UDP for the seat.
He contested the 2017 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate and earned little over 800 votes.
But this time Mr Lowe said he is hopeful and will go all out to defend the policies and development aspirations of President Barrow in the assembly.
Asked what inspired him to contest instead of allowing younger aspirants in line with his party’s focus on youth empowerment, Lowe replied: “Yes, the youths were among those who applied but I was very fortunate to get it and I am very pleased that the people decided to pick me and I know I will fulfil whatever tasks are ahead of me.”
