The paramount chief of The Gambia, Alhaji Demba Sanayang who is also the district chief of Kombo North, has retired, official sources told The Standard.
According to our source, Mr Sanyang, a long serving former civil servant who became chief in 2005, retired with full benefits for reasons of old age and poor health. A senior government official who spoke to The Standard paid tribute to the “good and long service” of the former chief both for Kombo North and the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, a new chief has been appointed for Kombo North. He is Momodou LK Bojang, a native of Sukuta. A retired senior police head of CID, Mr Bojang is also a serving magistrate at the Kanifing court. His appointment letter came from the Office of the Governor of West Coast Region and took effect from 29 December.

The new chief served in the Gambia Police Force for 30 years and is a grandson of ancient chief Fansu Bojang.
Reacting to his new job, Chief Bojang said he accepted the appointment in good faith and will work hard to meet expectations and functions according to law.
