Samger wins appeal to become champions

The Gambia Football Federation has reinstated Samger FC’s forfeited point which now hands them the title as champions of the second division.

This development came after the body upheld the club’s appeal against a decision by the organizing committee a few weeks ago to strip Samger of a single point based on an appeal forwarded by Serekunda East BI FC. The move did not affect Samgers promotion to first division but it placed them at second place behind of Wallidan who were declared champions of the second division league with all its glory and medallion.

Undeterred, Samger lodged an appeal that the forfeiture of their point based on an appeal by Serekunda East- Bi was illegal because the time allowed for any appeal had elapsed before the Serekunda East Bi appeal was filed and in any case Samger was never told of the appeal until after three months. Samger went ahead to furnish the GFF with facts.

The GFF has now agreed and has overturned the Organising Committee’s decision and returned Samger the single most important point in their history this year.

Baboucarr Sey, secretary general of Samger FC told The Standard he received a letter from the GFF reinstating their forfeited point and two goals which now gives them a point ahead of Wallidan FC. He said Samger will be officially crowned with their medals on Friday, at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium after the Women FA Cup final.
