Jerreh Sonko, the soldier was arrested and put on Restriction of Privileges, ROP, at the Fajara Barracks for unlawfully going home with his weapon, has been freed and has returned to his unit.
Sonko spent time on ROP at the Fajara Barracks in a move military sources said was a form of disciplinary action proportionate to his offence while the matter was investigated.
Last night Army spokesman Lt. Col. Omar Bojang told The Standard Sonko has since rejoined his unit for normal work and whatever is left will be matter of an internal disciplinary measure. ”This kind of punishment is normal in the army, of course depending on the offence,” he noted.
Asked about the fate of the ten former ‘junglers’ still in detention, Bojang said that case requires delicate handling and the Army is in consultation with all relevant authorities, notably the Ministry of Justice for special advice.
