Following what they called the failure of consultations with government on improvement to their working conditions, the Gambia Teachers Task Force has issued a statement signed by their Chairman, Babucarr Janko threatening that the teachers will observe an indefinite sit-down strike by September if their conditions are not met.
The statement also chided the government for increasing the transport allowances of teachers in the urban areas while those in the provinces did not get that facility.
The Task Force urged government to look into that matter with a view to resolving it otherwise they will consider going on a sit-down strike by September.
The release however called on all teachers to remain calm and continue their work while further consultations are done with authorities over the matter.
The Task Force also reminded the authorities that the agreement between MoBSE and GTU has expired without any resolution.
