Following the dismissal of the UDP Kuntaur Area Council chairmanship election petition against GDC by the Supreme Court for lack of jurisdiction, The Standard has reliably learnt yesterday that the matter will now be taken to the High Court.
A source close to the party said the Supreme Court’s decision is clear that it does not have jurisdiction to hear election petition of that kind.
Only presidential and parliamentary election petitions go to the Supreme Court. This one can only be heard at the High Court,” a source told The Standard.
The UDP, which won all but one seat of available seats, is claiming that its candidate Alasana Jobarteh actually won the election and not the GDC’s Saihou Jawara as declared by the IEC.
