By Omar Bah

The United Democratic Party UDP has removed its chairman for KMC, Ounda Nyang, highly placed sources within the party confirmed to The Standard. Our sources further disclosed that one Falang Sonko has replaced Mr Nyang. According to another UDP source, Nyang’s removal followed a petition signed by some 35 prominent party supporters in the region questioning his loyalty and compliance with party procedures and demanding his removal.
However when contacted, Nyang said he believed his removal has to do with his support for the Barrow agenda. The reasons they have stated for my removal are not valid. I think the issue has to do with the fact that I support the Barrow agenda. I have been actively involved organising events linked to Barrow’s development agenda and no one can stop me from doing that.

“However I still consider my self as a UDP supporter as I am a founding member of the party. It will interest you to know that I was there from day one and in fact the other hand in the party’s famous handshake symbol is my hand,“ Mr Nyang said.
Political observers in Serekunda West said Nyang’s removal is part of the on-going cold war between the UDP and President Barrow. “It is the same pattern. Any UDP official sympathetic to Barrow’s political agenda will be removed from the party just as Barrow will continue to remove any aide close to the UDP, ” one commentator said.
