Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray has claimed that the ‘significant success’ recorded by the outgoing 5th legislative assembly [parliament] could not have been achieved without the creation of a ‘conducive environment’ by President Adama Barrow.

Speaking during the last debate of the assembly last week, VP Touray contended that unlike his predecessor, President Adama Barrow created an enabling environment to ensure legislative independence and autonomy.

“We have to realise that whatever [NAMs] may do if the enabling environment is not there it is useless. We have experiences in the past that all of us can relate to. So without a leadership that believes in the will, the power and interest of the people it will never happen. President Barrow has brought in democracy and has tried all his level best to nurture it with you NAMs, allowing the different arms of government to be as independent as possible,” Dr. Touray said.

“I think we have to celebrate the success [of the 5th legislature because there have been more successes than failures. You brought in 53 bills and deliberated on certain projects that are already visible. For the successes that you have mentioned, we did it together under the leadership of President Adama Barrow,” she said.
