The Vice President Dr Isatou Touray on Wednesday received donations from a Ghana-based Church of Jesus Christ of latter – day Saints. The donated materials include 100 corrugated iron sheets, 100 bags of rice, 100 mattresses, 100 5-litre oil drums, 100 bags of sugar, and beans.
This is in response to the 7 July 2021 windstorm disaster that shook the country, and reportedly claimed the lives of 11 people.
Receiving the materials during the handing over ceremony at her office, VP Touray thanked the donors for their benevolence and for “answering to the call of HE Adama Barrow”.
She recognised the move made by the group as humanitarian.
Mr James Owusu-Ansah, associate director of Church Communications Department, West Africa Area, said they hope this will go a long way towards helping the victims and their families.
The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) Sanna Dahaba, also thanked the religious body for making such a humanitarian contribution to the lives of the ordinary citizens.
The ceremony was chaired by the Deputy Permanent Secretary – Technical, Office of the Vice President, Saikou JK Trawally.
