The build up to the Senegambia Novelty Run, planned for January 18 is continuing progressively both in Banjul and Dakar. This is the first attempt by The Gambia and Senegal to have an annual event that could impact on the world sports tourist market. In Senegal, the Governor of the Region of Fatick has called a meeting today Friday that will bring the mayor, heads of all major businesses in the region, service chiefs and the media to discuss the event and take pledges. Last week a delegation from Kaolack led the head of the chamber of commerce of the region to Banjul for chat with the Gambia chamber of commerce on the event. According to the delegation Kaolack will host the runners on their first night-stop on January 18 where they will be treated to a festival. Kaolack also promised to register a team representing them in the race. In the Gambia, the organisers are busy putting up the logistics and arranging companies and entities to register for the event. A minimum of ten companies have so far expressed interest with many more expected. These include the Gambia police and the Army among others. The Senegambia Run is scheduled to start at the foot of the new Trans- Gambia Bridge at Yelli-Tenda on January 18, and ending on January 20 at Place de Nation in Dakar where the captain of the winning team will handover a letter of goodwill from President Adama Barrow to President Macky Sall. The next day January 21, the runners will return to the Bridge to award the certificates of dedication of the Run to President Barrow and President Macky Sall coinciding with the official opening of the bridge.]]>
