According to reports, The Gambia’s participation is facilitated by the president of the Nigerian Athletics Association, Solomon Ogba who invited and provided tickets for the Gambian team.
The Standard yesterday contacted GAA president, Dodou Joof, who confirmed The Gambia’s invitation came when he met the Nigeria AA boss during the recent African youth qualifiers in Gaborone, Botswana.
“Solomon is good friend of mine and we discussed the grand prix and I highlighted our constraints. He offered to provide tickets for seven athletes and myself but I have decided to give mine to the coach,” Joof said.
He said the Gambian team will compete in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay. “This exposures help build the experience of our athletes. It is just like friendly matches in football; you need them to asses and improve your athletes,” Joof said. The event will be staged in Warri, Delta state.
