The Gambia has registered a terrifying 637 road traffic accidents between January to August 2021, according to the mobile traffic unit of The Gambia Police Force.
According to the commissioner of traffic Lamin King Colley, 75 people died in these accidents.
Commissioner Colley made this revelation during a two-day forum on road traffic accidents in The Gambia, targeting several government and non-governmental organizations in the country.
The event was organised in form of presentation, review and harmonization of the different Road Crash Reporting Templates that individual institutions such as police, health, WHO, WARSO use.
The traffic commissioner further disclosed that 231 cases have been considered serious, while 214 others were minor cases, with 116 non-injured and 1 unknown. According to a data published by the WHO in 2018, the Gambia is only placed above three countries in the world with high number of road traffic accidents.
